German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH)

Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH)

The BSH is a federal superior agency in Germany under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs. It is in charge of maritime spatial planning in the German EEZ and has national competence in approving offshore installations, such as wind parks or pipelines. BSH also carries out hydrographic surveys and environmental monitoring of the sea, and owns Germany's largest marine database.

After being a partner in the BaltCoast project (2004–2006), BSH decided to lead the next international maritime spatial planning initiative in the Baltic Sea Region - the BaltSeaPlan project
