Under a Service Framework Contract with the EU Commission / DG MARE, the EUNETMAR consortium has developed a study “Support to the Development of Sea Basin Cooperation in the Mediterranean, the Adriatic and Ionian and the Black Sea”.

The aim of the study has been to scope out the potential opportunities and appropriate structures for a successful implementation of the EU Blue Growth strategy in the sea basins of the Mediterranean, the Adriatic and Ionian and the Black Sea. It has drawn lessons from the successful 2008 EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.

The study has therefore:
  • Identified the potential for Blue Growth in the Member States of the Mediterranean and Black Sea and provide recommendations for supporting the sustainable growth potentials of each country’s blue economy
  • Supported the elaboration of the Adriatic and Ionian Maritime Action Plan
  • Identified elements for a sea-basin strategy in the Black Sea
  • Identified elements for a sea-basin strategy in the Mediterranean Sea, supported by recommendations on the possible development of sub-basin strategies
